Team Rubicon announces 2007 Lineup and Mission
The young quarky team from Portland Oregon is back for 2007. Their young, ready to take on cancer, have fun racing their bikes and maybe learn a thing or two along the way.
Team Rubicon has two missions; raise awareness of cancer and funds for the Lance Armstrong Foundation while developing young U-23 athletes from the US, New Zealand and Australia. Everyone has been touched by cancer in some form and we hope to help individuals through the sport of cycling.
We have gather 10 very talented young riders who are motivated to work hard as a team. Their first official race will be Sea Otter as there focus will be both on the NRC and local Pacific Northwest calendars. It’s our goal to give these guys the skills and opportunity they need to move to the next level of cycling; the pro ranks.
Brief history on how Team Rubicon came to life:
In 2000 Norrene’s mother was diagnosed with Lung cancer, she gave up on life, but Norrene did not give up on her. She contacted a friend at Nike and he contacted Lance Armstrong. Lance took time out of his busy schedule to autograph a message to Norrene’s mother on one of his yellow tour de France jerseys “Fight mom, Lance Armstrong.” With that, she fought long and hard and lived 6 months longer than the doctors said she would. So Norrene vowed to pay Lance back by paying it forward, this is how Team Rubicon came to be. ("Rubicon" from the historic decision of Augustus Caesar to cross the Rubicon river in defiance of the Roman Senate that came to mean: “to do or die”)
Rubicon is human inspired and fully committed to making a difference in other people’s lives through sport and the simple act of kindness.
Rubicon is a 501c3 non-profit corporation, some of our community services outside of raising funds for the LAF include: Annual Toy Drive for Dorenbecher’s Children’s Hospital, Monday night Coffee Rides, Nike Bike Drive, Girls Night Out; all girls track class and more.
