LAF Ride ~ Portland

LAF RIDE ~ Portland

This event was held on Sunday 30th of July this year. The day dawned cold and wet but soon would fine up and turn into a beautiful day. Team Rubicon contributed to the success of the event in the best way they know how . . .

• Team Rubicon’s fantastic fundraising event this year allowed usto send a representative to the LAF Ride 2006. Our 2006 team representative was Chris Alling. Chris said he had an awesome time  and to cap off his experience . . . .Lance Armstrong rolled up along side him and rode with Chris for a few miles and chatted with him. This is something Chris will never forget, Thank you team for help raising the $$ to give Chris this awesome experience.

• Team PediCabs were out and about on the morning of the ride giving LAF kids a ride around the venue. These kids had so much fun as seen by the smiles from ear to ear on their faces the entire time. Plus with each kid receiving a big yellow cookie and some yellow helium ballons after their trip just completed there awesome time!

• Team support van – simply put, YOU ROCK! For those of you who don’t know it, the van went above and beyond the call of duty and change God knows, how many flat tires and fixed tons of mechanical issues so people could continue with the ride. Please check out this note thanking the Rubicon support Crew. . . . .

Yesterday I did the 70 mile Livestrong ride. The timing was very appropriate since it was almost 5 months to the day I had brain surgery to remove a malignant tumor. My mind and drive wanted to do the 100 miles, but as I was getting passed by ladies on mtb's, I realized that option wouldn't have been prudent!

If I posted all the thanks that I wanted to give, it would probably tie up the OBRA server, so I'll just note the one most related to this list: the Team Rubicon support van. I had 2 flat tires, one at mile 20 and the next at mile 60. It was caused by a shard of glass about the size of half a dime. They didn't have a spare tire the first time so they agreed with my plan of using a dollar bill for a boot, and put the tire on and pumped it up for me.

The second time was on Marine Drive and apparently were right behind me noticing I kept looking back at my rear tire. I stopped and sure enough the pressure was low. This time they had a spare tire and had me on my way.

Thank you,Team Rubicon,2 times, for saving my day!
