About Team Rubicon

Rubicon Team History

The creation of Team Rubicon is the result of the dream of the team's captain, Norrene Godfrey. Norrene is a competitive cyclist who lost her mother to cancer in the fall of 2001. Her mother was inspired by the courage of Lance Armstrong to continue waging her battle with cancer. Lance is obviously an international mega-star athlete, known for his victories against testicular cancer and the world famous Tour de France. Yet, despite his hectic schedule, Lance took the time to personally touch Norrene's mother's life, even sending her one of his cycling jerseys autographed with the words “Fight mom, Lance Armstrong" thus encouraging her to persevere.

In order to repay Lance for his kindness and "pay it forward," Norrene dreamed of a cycling team that would ride in support of the Lance Armstrong Foundation and its fight against cancer. Thus, Team Rubicon was born. The name Rubicon comes from Caesar's brave crossing of the Rubicon river and loosely translates as "To do or die.

At first, Rubicon was created as a women's only team, believing that the team should encourage and support this often overlooked and unsupported group of competitive athletes. However, the team soon realized that it could help another poorly represented demographic in the cycling world: youth cyclists. Succumbing to their nurturing sides, the team decided to adopt young people interested in cycling into the Rubicon fold.
