Stage 2
Report from David Godfrey, Team Rubicon

Sorry it’s late. I had bikes and bottles to clean, flats to fix, dinner to make, dishes to clean, etc, etc….

Started a little warmer. Yesterday it was a little overcast so the temp stayed a little cooler, but today it is nice and hot with the bright blue sky.

EB (Early Break) today consisted of Glen Chadwick and Scott Z They built up a good 4+ min. lead. But like always…..

After the turn at Sisters to start the climb up McKenzie Tree Farm (Ryan Trebon), Matt Cook and SC closed the gap first. The gap was down to about 45 seconds now so it didn’t take long for them to catch the break. Scott Z dropped off first leaving 2 Navigators, one BMC, and one very tall skinny guy (We know who that is).

It all came “together” again finally. Well at least at the front it did. At this point up the final climb, the field was all spread out. Sucessful Living guys (who were on the front all day setting a very fast pace) were dropping like flies along with pretty much the rest of the field.

I don’t know how it all turned out. Tuckerman was in a group with Douggie. Logan, Brad, and Dan all finished with the “pack” which is great because they had a huge chase of their own to getting Tuckerman back into the field at 30+ mph after a flat.

Stage 1
Report from the field by David Godfrey, Team Rubicon

1st day of Cascade Classic was almost the same as yesterday’s tour stage. 7 people were in the EB (Early Break), Heath Blackgrove, Dougie O, Daniel Ramsay, Ben Day, Scott Nydam, Scott Zwizanski and Curtis Gunn. They built a 7+ minute lead at one point. Aaron (Tuckerman) tried to bridge earlier but with 3 minutes to the break and only 30 seconds ahead of the field, he sat up and came back.

A chase ended up getting away mid race with Tree Farm (Ryan Trebon), Olson, and SC. It didn’t get more than 3 minutes and was caught after the mid way climb. It was caught on the run into Pilot Butte for the finish. At this point the break was starting to split up some and lost some organization. Dougie was still on the front with Blackgrove and one other at the start of the final 1.5K climb up the Butte and held on for the lead Oregon rider jersey. Sucks, he would have had a good go at the stage win if the others were a little more interested in working….. Oh well. Guess that’s how the game is played.

Aaron (Tuckerman) attacked just about at the K sign but was caught and ended up 12th 53 seconds down. Danger (Logan Hunn) flatted his brand new Corsa CX tubular and chased back on on the final decent. He finished in 40th. Dan Harm finished the day in 71st. Brad spent a day fetching bottles and paid the price riding in in 95th.
