Rubicon takes on the Portland AVC
The Portland AVC kicked off with the men's and women's pursuit. Scott Allen fresh off the plane from super week rode to a second place, followed by Walker Starr and Nathan Spear. Miranda set a personal best in her pursuit which earned her a 3 place podium spot. For the evening session it was 500s and kilos. Again Miranda and Scotty made podium, both taking 3rd. Day 2 Brian Abers took to the track and race the men's master sprints. Brian hasn't been racing much this year, instead he has been coaching young up and coming riders, but it was Brian's time to stretch his legs a bit. Brian posted a fast flying 200 time and proceed to beat every rider he was paired with to take top honors in the sprint division. While the team was out racing, team captain and mom, Norrene Godfrey, took to the stands and passed a hat to raise money for the LAF. Rubicon was able to raise another $280 which Nike will match, bring the total raised to $560 ! Day 3 All the riders where feeling a little rough from all the racing however I think Scott Allen was feeling the worse of all. He had raced super week then jumped on a plane from Chicago to Portland Thursday night and was off to the AVC Friday morning. Scotty was in second place in the overall pro, 1 men's ominum. The ominum came down to the last race, a 150 lap points race, three guys could bump Scotty down to 5th spot over all. From the gun attacks went off the front, Scotty only had to worry about the few guys who could knock him out of second. Midway through the 150 lap points race the danger break went, without Scotty. The guys who could bump him out of second where half a track up, Carl Hoefer saw the break go and realized the danger to the overall team standings, he dug in an launched an attack with Scotty in tow. Carl was able to bridge Scotty up to the break within one and half laps. This move was the key move that only saw Scotty lose one place overall and still remain on the podium in third spot overall in the men's pro ominum.
