The Tour De Nez turned out to be one huge race for
the Rubicon-ORBEA team. We went to Nez with a mission, win the U23
jersey and after the first stage, Roman van Uden was in the leader’s
jersey, we lost it in the TT to Adam Swittzer of Rock Racing, but by
stage four we had it back. Carson was on a mission to regain the jersey
for the team put six and a half minutes into Adam and one minute and 33
seconds into Ben Bradshaw of Kahala-La Grange. Carson was riding solo
for 45 miles of the 65 mile race putting distance and time into his
closest U23 rivals. Back in the bunch, Roman managed to drop all his
competitors and bridge up to Carson by the last lap of the 10 lap
circuit. Carson and Roman worked together to make sure the white jersey
was safe in the yellow camp.
Stage 5, the village circuit race was the last stage and the boys in
yellow knew only Ben had an outside chance of gaining the young rider
jersey, so with that in mind, Josh, Roman and Carson stepped to the
line and kept a close eye on him. After 15 minutes into the race, Ben
dropped off the pace and it was all net from there. Carson and Roman
hung on to take 11th and 15th on the day, moving them up into 17th and
18th in overall GC. Josh hung in there to take 34th moving him up into
42nd overall GC. It was a great race for the guys as they all had to
work together to get and keep the white jersey.

The Tour De Nez Kid’s events – the kids had 3 races and I must
have handed out over 500 wristbands to all the little competitors. The
yellow wristbands where the hit of the town. We also visited the Renown
Children’s Hospital on Tuesday afternoon, sorry we do not have photos,
we where not allowed to take them. However the kids where awesome, one
little boy wanted to touch the bike we brought with us and another
little girl let the guys know that she never used training wheels and
her bike is pink.
