Top, guys chatting about race prior to the event; Photo two and three, Evan Elken in a break; Photo four, Roman vanUden up the road trying to get something started
The Redland's criterium was HOT -in more ways than one.
The weather was bright and sunny and in the upper 80s and the 90 minute citerium never eased up in speed. The peleton saw an average of 30 mph on the nine corner -yes you read that right, NINE corner criterium -BMC tied to keep the race under control for their race leader Jeff Louder, by not letting any break get too far off the front. But still attempts where made, and Portland's own Evan Elken bridged up to a break and took some cash for a prime before BMC brought it back.
Last lap was littered with crashes, but Evan was able to come away with 9th -great job Evan!
Tomorrow is the final stage -146.5 K, 12 lap Sunset Road Race, it's a beast -5 KOMs makes for a long day in the office. The guys are coming together, it's a bit of a rough start and this is the first time that most of guys in yellow have ever raced Redlands . . .but they have nothing to lose and everything to gain in tomorrows stage, let the attacks begin!
